We had our first ultrasound today – and we actually got to hear the baby’s heartbeat! It’s 160bpm – much faster than my own – which the doctors said is perfectly healthy and robust. That was what made the Critter so much more real to me. An inch-and-a-half-long smudge is one thing, but a creature with its own heartbeat inside me is much realer.
