from Variety, about that damn DaVinci Code Movie:
- The thriller, starring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou, appears to have struck a particular chord with Europeans by turning a thousand years of their history into pop culture and giving them the chance to look with newfound interest at their own heritage.
Dear Europe: I am sorry for holding a passport to a nation so fucking stupid that it would write a paragraph like this. I am sorry that I’m writing this from a country that ALREADY turned their heritage into pop culture (see: National Treasure, amidst others) and therefore thinks that such things are necessary in order for a population to have any interest in history. And, finally, I am sorry that, in order for their entertainment corporation CEOs to continue to take home their zillions of un-needed dollars, this country has spewed it’s TV and low-grade movie addiction into your continent.
Sweet.
Jebus.
Damn.
Dear Variety: America is the only country that needs a movie to tell it that it has history. Which you do, most of which you tend to conveniently forget.
OK, I feel better now.
