There is no place on earth I want to go to more than Paris, France. I’m so hopelessly in love with New Orleans that I can only imagine what it would be like to go to Paris.
So I was sad today when I had to write the e-mail to my friends saying that I probably can’t afford to go with them to Paris for a week next spring. Or rather, I could afford it – but my priority right now is to save up for a couple years so I can just disappear into Europe for a year or two, starting in 2007. And I’m not sure I can afford to drop the money on just a week in Paris when I know I wouldn’t want to leave.
On the bright side, I am going to DC in seven weeks with CODEPINK for the huge anti-war protest the weekend of the 23rd-26th of September. I’ve never been to DC, so I’m very excited about going. And I’m looking forward to being part of that event, to seeing the great monuments of America while protesting the war.
I can only hope I get to go to Paris for a long time, some day in the future. Weeks. Months. It just might not be with the six of my friends who are going next April – and that makes me sad.
Unrelated, but I’m listening to this new Royksopp album today (“The Understanding”) and it is seriously fucking brilliant. I highly recommend it. Those Norwegians know what they’re doing. It’s non-definable by genre, but it’s some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard. It’s definitely in the electronica category, but ranges from classical to electroclash strains. It’s wonderful, and I think it’s going to be one of my favorite albums of 2005.
I love New Orleans. I despised Paris. Go to New York instead — they’re just as rude, and they have better landscaping.
Yes, but I’m a history nerd, and I love just walking through cities looking at places. I spent hours in New Orleans walking the Quarter or the Garden District.
Plus, I hear they’re slightly nicer over there to us Canadians with our half-assed French π
If you end up having time when you’re here, pop me an email and let me know if you want to grab of coffee or something. π
I will try to make time to finally meet you! That would be fantastic!
Ah yes, “Europe, where the history comes from.” LOL (Quote from Eddie Izzard.)
They INVENTED history over there, I hear π
I’ll email you my cell #, too.
If you get too busy with Code Pink, I am coming out to LA in early October. Either way it’d be great to meet you! π
